School shooting

These stories are so awful.

I realize that I am not insane (at least I don't think I am) but what is with this compulsion to kill people prior to killing oneself? It's horrible.

They believe "I'm so miserable I don't want to live anymore. You made me this miserable, you don't deserve to live either."

"and I have a gun"
which is the common element that makes domestic abuse situations deadly

I don't know if all abusers think they're miserable, but they do all believe that they deserve to have power over the abused, and there's no greater power than taking another person's life

Just terrible.

I don't know how we get guns out of the hands of these men, in their depression/mental illness, who think that it is OK for them to kill someone else (usually family but sometimes someone else they blame for their feelings of being diminished) and then kill themselves, but it's a problem I'd sure like to see solved.

It would go a LONG way towards sending the pro/anti gun control argument to irrelevance.

Of course, our legislators could just having sensible gun controls - background checks, maybe a twitter-alert geolocation broadcasting safe, a sort of opposite of amber alerts (i.e. warn everyone when a gun owner takes it out of the safe.) These legislators COULD do this if they were willing to respect the stated desires of 9 in 10 americans, instead of being afraid of the NRA.

This was an angry man with a gun who slaughtered his wife and an 8-year old boy, and shot another kid to get us to an even number of casualties.

Twist away!
