FYI: RipIt requires an internet connection to work
#1
I discovered this a couple of days ago. I had my cable modem shut down because I was power cycling it during the process pf changing routers. I decided to rip a DVD, and I got the old beach ball and Activity Monitor said the program was "not responsive". I quit the program and tried again. No luck. When I had internet again, the program worked just fine. RipIt has been giving me nag messages for quite awhile now, telling me that I should upgrade to DVDRipperPro. I guess this "feature" wouldn't work without an internet connection.

Perhaps you have 'check for update upon launch' preference checked

Not on my "Late" 2011, 17" MBP. I've lost count of the items I've ripped via RipIt when I have NO internet connection. I do have to remember BEFORE I start to rip to be sure I have the right destination checked. When I forget, I get an error message that the HD RipIt expects can't be found.

No such problem here.

It tries to make 2 connections, one upon launch to the update server at thelittleappfactory.com and one to discident when I start a rip.

I've got v1.6.9.

What version are you running?

...DVDRipperPro is not a littleappfactory product. It's from Aimersoft/Wondershare/iSkySoft et al which is not a reputable company. (That they use many aliases online should be a tell.)

I wonder whether you've got malware messing you up and inserting links to aimersoft apps in your downloads. It wouldn't be the first time that Genieo or MacKeeper or the like messed up a person's computer.

I bought RipIt many years ago and it has been successful on all but a handful.
An outstanding application IMHO.
