Murphy (R-PA) resigns, won't wait to "retire"

Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.), the embattled anti-abortion lawmaker who allegedly encouraged his lover to terminate a pregnancy, on Thursday announced his plan to resign from office later this month — just a day after announcing his plan to retire following the 2018 election.

Another "special election" on the way...

Pennsylvania's 18th has been Republican for two decades, although it has 70K more registered Dems than Republicans according to wikipedia.

It is mostly white and includes the southern burbs of Pittsburgh and several coal mining counties. Probably not that fertile for Dems right now and we could end up with someone worse than Murphy (though it's hard to imagine...)

This district was formerly represented by Rick Santorum. These voters need to get a grip.

Too bad he couldn't have stopped being a hypocritical misogynist and defended a woman's right to choose, and right to access health care, instead.

Some of the health care bills the Republicans have pitched would allow doctors to refuse to care for women because they had previously had procedures associated with (but not necessarily exclusive to!) abortions.

So, basically, they're fine with relegating otherwise healthy human beings to the status of second class citizens because they may have in the past been sick. That's really fine, really fine people.
