Know anything about whole house surge protectors?

A surge can also come through the COAX cable (and perhaps a telephone line, or some other wire coming into your house). You still need surge protectors for these devices.
I heartily agree, after losing a cable modem and a poor little Airport Base Station when lightning struck my neighbor's house. Poor little ABS never stood a chance.... Sad

Good info, thanks. I've researched all the above, the one sold by power company is not sold anywhere else and goes on at the meter, not the panel. If I were to get the panel kind, I'll install it myself. I'll still use my device protectors that protect coax cable, Ethernet, etc.

Ah, goes between the meter and your panel. Several minutes install time for them, then $10 a month forever. Good deal, for THEM.

For the $100-$300, and whatever the install time or pay to a pro, it's worth it. I still need to get off my arse and do my house. Drinking buddy is an EE for the local utility and will walk me through the install if I supply the beer.
