Today's observation from Mr. Gibbon
#1

Imperator Moronicus

"Suspicious princes often promote the last of mankind, from a vain persuasion that those who have no dependence except on their own favor will have no attachment except to the person of their benefactor."
-Edward Gibbon
( commenting on the cruel, bloody rage-filled reign of the Emperor Commodus.)

The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is a six-volume work by the English historian Edward Gibbon. It traces Western civilization (as well as the Islamic and Mongolian conquests) from the height of the Roman Empire to the fall of Byzantium.

"…beware the Ides of March…" (When all of this started ramping up…)

As one soothsayer to another, what's the worst that can possibly happen?

Yes, I remember now. I was taking c
Comparative region course and got wrapped up with the Roman Empire and read the books along with I Claudius and several books published by an English publisher on biographies of several Caesars. Who would have known I would eventually be ruled by a Caesar!
