I want to get lots of books for my niece at a low cost. She has a little sister who can use them later, and they have a cousin a couple years younger. I want to jump start a library for them with lots of books. Ebay had several but they were too babyish for what I'm looking for.

Check with a local school.. most textbooks are on a 5-6 year switchout. You may be able to get some that would otherwise be discarded. If you know a teacher, ask them - they may have old books that they are willing to part with.

I'm not looking for textbooks, per se. Just books more advanced than typical kiddy books.

Try scholastic books you can order and even get bonuses for yourself or a teacher. tough to find the award -winning books, because they sell for years. (hungry catepiller, etc)
Amazon, I buy used very good or better (no writing except maybe a name for some savings. Having prime helps.
In Texas, the half price books chain has good quality children's books /ABC books, etc. in great shape,
Libraries have extensive book sales that are good. Garage sales and estate sales have cheap stuff. Look for remainder catalogs (R. Hamilton, Bookseller or other sellers (Christianbook.com, etc.) Barnes and Nobles have sales on remainder books. Used bookshops are good for some selection. Their prices can vary, particularly when they are selling on the internet.
Ask librarians and teachers for ideas for good books and even sources. Lots of cheap foreign printing in Walmart and the like. bookfinder.com
Lots of places will sell sets and collections. If you are talking about multiple copies of the same book, there are places that sell in bulk or by the case.

Goodwill or Salvation Army may carry books.
