Grassley 'splains it
#1
"Grassley explains all-male, all-white Senate Republican judiciary panel: Women don’t want to do the work"

“It’s a lot of work — maybe they don’t want to do it,” Grassley said. “My chief of staff of 33 years tells me we’ve tried to recruit women and we couldn’t get the job done.”

Like Jimmy Kimmel says about comedy, in politics the best people naturally rise to the top. It has nothing at all to do with who is already at the top, so stop asking all these questions about them. The current composition of the Judiciary Committee has absolutely nothing to do with who would want to serve there.

It's more about whether they want to do the work, probably. Or maybe they're just not naturally as qualified. Hard to say, right?

I get a kick out of his assumption that any woman of any quality would be desperate to work for him.

Sadly, his kind of arrogance is pretty much the definition of the problem.

Current number of women of color on the Supreme Court = 1

Current number of men accused of sexual harassment or assault on Supreme Court = 2

Imagine a SCOTUS nominee who is a woman of color, facing allegations like the ones we saw last week. Her chances of ascending to the court??

And the odds of accidentally nominating a judge who is a woman of color who has a history of getting drunk and sexually assaulting men and perjuring herself and making up fake laws to persecute indigent immigrants and who shouts white supremacist slogans and and crazy conspiracy theories on the floor of the Senate would be...?
