iTunes and movies bought elsewhere

I saw this on the net: "I bought it at Fandangonow and it ported to Movies Anywhere, Vudu and iTunes"

What does this mean? did they download a file and can play it in iTunes (or VLC for that matter), or somehow it shows up in their Apple ID account?

You can link other movie services (e.g., iTunes) to your Movies Anywhere account, then any purchases that shows up in Movies Anywhere will also be available in your iTunes movies automagically (under your purchased movies, there's not a downloadable file).
