Craigslist and Bidpay
#1
I've put an item up for sale on Craigslist and someone responded that they wanted to buy it and use Bidpay. His english is kind of broken and I googled Craigslist and Bidpay and found that a lot of scammers try to use bidpay to rip people off somehow. Most of the things I read also said I should stick to local buyers only. Well I told this guy that I would only sell to someone local. He insisted that he really wanted the item. I replied and told him the only way I would work with him is if he sends me a money order for the item to my PO Box. He replied again saying he will send the money order and again asked for all of my information. I do not feel comfortable with this transaction at all. He already has my name and I wanted to open up a PO Box at the post office anyway because here in a few weeks when I buy my first house I don't want to have to give the address out to random people if I don't have to. Should I go ahead with this? It seems odd to me that someone would send me a money order for a rather large some of money without knowing if he is actually going to get his item.

BTW, fake money orders are a big scam on eBay.

People cash them, and a week later their bank removes the funds from their accounts when it "bounces". By then, the item has been shipped.

Stick with whatever you set as the guidelines and leave it at that. I'd rather lose a possible sale than lose everything else.

Hell no, stay clear of that person. Don't even give out your details, they'll use it in some weird way. At best, give some made up corporation name (or since you already have done so, your name) and a P. O. Box address registered to you (that way you'll be able to cash it). Only accept a USPS Money Order (so you can cash it at the Post Office).

Show me the cash.

That's all I would accept.

Bidpay is for auctions ONLY. Bidpay won't accept payments for anything but auctions. Any CL offer to use Bidpay is a scam.

Oh, and Bidpay no longer does MOs. All transfers are by ACH to the seller's checking account. Any offer to send a bidpay MO is scam.
