What is wrong with the preview program???
#1
I'm running Sierra, and Preview version 9.0

I can open a group of files with preview just fine, but when I try to open another group of files, I get this message. If I quit the the Preview program and try again, I can now open the files. This happens repeatedly. What gives?

Are the files in the same location? This might be one case where repair permissions actually helps.

Repair permissions only worked on system files, not JPEGs in your own folder. Check the actual permission of the file(s) in question.

Try booting in Safe mode then rebooting normally.

I’ve seen that kind of thing when I’ve moved files (in non-Apple-ish ways) from one Mac to another, or maybe when files are copied from an admin account to a non-admin user account.

If you can figure out what files are affected, I think you can go to whatever folder encloses them all, go cmd-I (get info), and change permissions on that folder, checking a box that says apply these changes to all enclosed files.
