backing up M$ Outlook Xpress mail
#1
My uncle wants to know which particular file/folder of Outlook Express 5.1 app he should save to back up to save all his email messages. He's using a 400MHz iMac running OS 9.1. He's preparing to upgrage to Panther for the sake's of ease of the wifi connection setup.

From the Mactopia web site:

Where does Outlook Express store my data?
OE stores your data in the Identities folder, which is in the Documents folder for OE running on OS 9 systems, or in the OE folder on pre-OS 9 systems. If you're not sure where your OE data is stored — in the Documents folder or in the OE folder — search for the Identities folder.

Your messages and settings are in one database file. Copy that to back it up. Then, restart Express with the Option key held down and choose to rebuild the database. Look for Rebuild Database in your Help menu for more info.
