With all due respect to IronMac, whom I know is Canadian (and whom I also know peripherally from a COMPLETELY different forum) Chinatown in Montreal is no great shakes.
My hotel of choice in Montreal is Loews Hotel Vogue...and I've been there several times in winter...

Ignore the comments about it being noisy. It is a lovely boutique hotel with all the benefits of an upscale chain, and the location is great.
Good places to eat: Great Eggspectations (right up the street), Moishe's Steakhouse (a cab ride), the brunch at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel (an easy walk).
The QE is also an OK hotel (its other restaurant --not the one I'm suggesting for brunch--the Beaver Club is supposedly one of the best in all of Canada) but it is not as posh or cozy as the Vogue.
Geez, the Vogue really is nice. I'm going to go out on a limb and offer my personal guarantee that if you stay there and do not find it "nice, comfortable, and centrally located" I will hand-write you a note of apology and snailmail it to you.*

*Note, this guarantee does not cover whether or not you also agree with me that it is also a "pretty good deal." Value is a highly subjective thing especially when it comes to hotels, and I go there with my family on a corporate rate.
