It's also apparently another page in their legal battle, the daughter is trying to get herself legally emancipated from both parents.

Putting aside this family's personal business for a moment (and the fact that because they are in the public eye, that their personal business becomes public), to me it raises some obvious, more general questions:
1) Why does this young woman still have a phone? If her parents were actually parenting, shouldn't they have taken the phone away from her by now? (Who is paying the phone bill?) 2) Should 16 year olds be taking nude selfies? (It doesn't matter if she thought it would only be on her own phone, we all know the phones can, and have been, hacked...) 3) WHY would the 16 year old be taking a nude selfie? Most typically, one might think it's to send to a boyfriend, but that raises all sorts of other, terrible questions -- like whether or not the 16 year old is essentially trafficking in child pron and could be classified as a sex offender. 4) Is it OK for a mom to be rifling through her child's phone? 5) What happens when this photo inevitably circulates? I cannot imagine the embarrassment, shame, and harassment that this girl will have to endure. I am not a parent and do not pretend by any means to have the answers to these questions, but I do think they need to be asked. The whole thing sounds terribly ill and sick, no matter how it came about.

AllGold wrote: Should *anyone* be taking nude selfies? Well, yeah, that too. It just seems like such a foolish thing to do. Well but the judgment skills of a 16 year old is just not the same as someone even in their 20s, or the typical 18-22 year old college crowd. They're legally usually still considered a minor and therefore should need the permission of their parent or guardian to do certain things.

PeterB,
You seem to have put a lot of thought into nude selfies here

Yeah this a clearly messed-up family. Sad. But also not surprising.

As messed up as this family is, they are not stupid.
Kellyanne is well aware of the legal trouble she would be in for posting a nude photo of her teen child. It had to be either a hack or a big mistake. |
