Songs for The Fourth? Nominees for your print-out songbook
#1
This actually started when a friend and I regularly visit Times Square and stand in front of the George M Cohan statue. I printed out the lyrics to his songs and we sing them in front of the statue.
(it's easy to print up extra copies to hand out to those merely gawking at us. Yes, everyone sings along)

So here's one for your Fourth of July songbook.
Any suggestions? (Celebrating America is okay, especially aspirational stuff. Remember MLK Day and Juneteenth are national Holidays)

Yankee Doodle Boy
by George m Cohan

(EDITED)

I'm a Yankee Doodle dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July
I've got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart
She's my Yankee Doodle joy
Yankee Doodle came to London
Just to ride the ponies
I am the Yankee Doodle boy

Father's name was Hezikiah
Mother's name was Ann Maria
Yanks through and through
(Red, white and blue)

Father was so Yankee hearted
When the Spanish War was started
He slipped upon his uniform
And hopped up on a pony

My mother's mother was a Yankee true
My father's father was a Yankee too
And that's going some
For the Yankees, by gum

I'm a Yankee Doodle dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July
I've got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart
She's my Yankee Doodle joy
Yankee Doodle came to London
Just to ride the ponies
I am the Yankee Doodle boy

Living in America

- James Brown

Superhighways, coast to coast,
Easy to get anywhere -
On the transcontinental overload
Just slide behind the wheel.
How does it feel …

When there's no destination that's too far,
And somewhere on the way,
you might find out who you are.

Living in America – eye to eye, station to station.
Living in America – hand in hand, across the nation.
Living in America - got to have a celebration,

Rock my soul!

Smokestack, fatback,
Many miles of railroad track.
All-night radio
keep on runnin'
through your rock'n' roll soul.
All-night diners keep you awake
on black coffee and a hard roll.
you might have to walk a fine line
you might take a hard line
But everybody's workin' overtime.

Living in America – eye to eye, station to station.
Living in America – hand in hand, across the nation.
Living in America – got to have a celebration,
rock my soul!

I live in America, I live in America, wait a minute,

You may not be lookin' for the promised land
But you might find it anyway.
Under one of those old familiar names like,
New Orleans, New Orleans
Detroit City, Detroit City
Dallas, Dallas
Pittsburgh PA., Pittsburgh PA.
New York City, New York City
Kansas City, Kansas City
Atlanta, Atlanta.
Chicago and L. A.

Living in America,
hit me,
Living in America,
Yeah
I walk in and out,
Living in America.

I live in America
State lines
Gonna make the prime that
I live in America
Hey
I know what it means, I

Living in America, Eddie Murphy, eat your heart out.

Living in America
Hit me, I said now, eye to eye, station to station.
Living in America,
so nice, with your bad self
Living in America, I feel good!
