Hypertension is rarely the cause of epistaxis. The nosebleed would be very bad, if truly related to BP. I often describe hypertension akin to a marathon rather than a sprint. The BP number will vary widely each day; as you walk, exert, become upset, experience pain, and etc, the BP will change significantly. The long term accumulated damage from hypertension is what causes the health problems.
Most of the time, nosebleeds are anterior in origin, meaning that either it's a small ulcer at Kesselbach's plexus, related to anti platelet or anticoagulant use, or is from nose picking. Going to the ER for blood pressure rarely leads to meaningful changes; most of the time, its beneficial to consult with primary care or cardiologist, especially if the patient doesn't have any pain or discomfort. YMMV. |
