MBP Retina Battery Replacement - Not so bad w/ household items + 2 specialty screwdrivers
#11
Battery install complete here.

No adhesive remover used. Only removed the back panel, not the motherboard or anything (except unplugging the battery.) Fishing line and dental floss were a fail. Both broke quickly. The fishing line was only 6lb test, though.

But, I just pried with a plastic spudger until I could get my fingers under the battery section. Steady, strong pull eventually got it out. I suspect that the adhesive was dried up after seven years and not as tenacious as in younger units. I was near a window in case I had a battery breach.

I did not remove the old adhesive from the case. If it weakend the bond, so what, makes it easier to lift out next time. Still plenty of grab to keep it from sloshing around in what little space it has. Still not clear to me why a couple well-placed screws couldn't hold things in place rather than that annoying adhesive.

Fitment was perfect to my eye.

Battery is charging, and I'll do iFixit's calibration recommendation today and tonight.
