My dentist had a $10 PPE fee in 2020.

Since they already wore masks prior to COVID, the only thing that I could see that they did differently was make patients gargle with peroxide at the beginning of a visit. Maybe they were buying premium peroxide.

They dropped the peroxide and the PPE fee in 2021.

Folks in my dentist’s office wore full face shields for years prior to COVID.

Hi everyone,

I don't like fees like this but I also understand them. The cost of protective gear has skyrocketed these days. Combine that with changing it out after each use/patient and properly cleaning/sanitizing reusable gear or replacing gear entirely and it adds up pretty quickly. It's a normal business expense but it's one that has increased significantly and it gets passed on to the patients.

I know that my dentist has not be able to see as many patients because of the time needed to clean exam areas . They use an ion(?) sprayer for chair and equipment and it has a waiting period. Also they were telling me that the cost of new better air purifier units was high. And insurance plans haven’t changed their reimbursement rates. So I can see why a ppe fee might be justified.
