My dentist had a $10 PPE fee in 2020.
Since they already wore masks prior to COVID, the only thing that I could see that they did differently was make patients gargle with peroxide at the beginning of a visit. Maybe they were buying premium peroxide. They dropped the peroxide and the PPE fee in 2021.

Hi everyone,
I don't like fees like this but I also understand them. The cost of protective gear has skyrocketed these days. Combine that with changing it out after each use/patient and properly cleaning/sanitizing reusable gear or replacing gear entirely and it adds up pretty quickly. It's a normal business expense but it's one that has increased significantly and it gets passed on to the patients. Robert

I know that my dentist has not be able to see as many patients because of the time needed to clean exam areas . They use an ion(?) sprayer for chair and equipment and it has a waiting period. Also they were telling me that the cost of new better air purifier units was high. And insurance plans haven’t changed their reimbursement rates. So I can see why a ppe fee might be justified.
