If we could just PLEASE cease with the "Loved a Message!" thing I'd be ok with all of the other weirdness between the different systems. And I'm part of many group chats of school age parents. Oy.

So. Other companies have had a long standing policy of not making their product available on Apple products. Microsoft doesn't offer Visio and other products for the Mac. Why should Apple offer their software for other platforms? People are free to use other apps on iPhones, iPads, etc.

Apple did what any company that wants to be successful should do. They developed something that people want to use and differentiated from their competition.

How can Google do it and still be successful? We need standards across all platforms. We need battery standards for these electro cars and all the other standards we just take for granted. They all use the same plugs.

Visio on the Mac... not a lot of demand there. Have you tried it in Parallels 17?

And yet I still can't easily back up and transfer my Messages from one device to another.

Sure, sometimes some workflows are successful (cloud migration or near field wireless transfer) assuming you have the data capacity on the destination device for EVERYTHING. Sometimes I'd just like to be able to transfer the Messages portion to another iPad or iPhone... not having tons of spare devices around, I can't just test until I get it right.

The point is that companies have the right to develop product as they want and compatibility. Consumers have the right to choose which products that they want to use. If kids feel that they need to have an iPhone, that's their problem not Apple's.
