Minor annoyance with Contacts
#1
Why do my contacts on my phone not appear on my Mac? Whenever a new person gets added to a chat, I create a contact. Then on my computer, as I continue the chat, I have to add them there as well. I thought all this was supposed to sync back and forth. Both my phone and my Mac say that Contacts are synced to iCloud. But its never worked. I have to create every contact twice.

Are your contacts checked to sync with iCloud in the Mac's iCloud system preferences, and on the Contacts preferences on the phone for the correct account?

If so, sometimes logging out of iCloud and logging back in fixes this stuff too.

Do you have any other devices that can confirm if Contact syncing is working correctly?

Log into iCloud website to verify phone is syncing to the cloud. If not check phone settings. If it is syncing then check Mac to verify logged into same account & that contact syncing is enabled.

I have had this problem for at least 5 years or more. When I create a new contact out of the blue, it will sync across all three macs and two phones.

When I get a call from someone and I create a contact from the phone call (or text message or some way other than a brand new blank slate contact), it WILL NOT SYNC. I have tried logging in and logging out, going to iCloud.com, etc. etc. WILL NOT SYNC.

Drives me nuts some times. No fixes that I can come up with or have found on the inter webs.

Settings > Contacts

Make sure that iCloud is the default account.

Spiff,

I've had this problem for years. Unfortunately, I've yet to find a permanent solution. Even iCloud doesn't have all the contacts that are in my phone but it's gets the closest to it. Very annoying.

Currently standardized on Mojave. Even moved a machine up to newer flavors of the OS to see if it would make a difference. Nope. Problem never goes away. Not even with a completely fresh installation.

No issues syncing other Apple features like iCloud drive. Contacts? Nothing but agita.

It's gotten to the point that I don't even bother trying to fix the issue. Not worth it. I'm good as long as my phone and iCloud are just about synced. Not perfect but good enough for now.

Anyone remember Now Contact. It was all so simple and accessible.
