It's important that this move is used PUNISH the Republicans. Democrats need to sing this from the rooftop.

"They gave $$Billions to the wealthy. $$Millions to themselves. And want to deny help to those of you who are NOT wealthy ? "

This. These Republicans are grinches, pure and simple. A lot of students from lower-income families would benefit tremendously from this, in some cases it would allow them to finish a degree that they started but couldn't complete due to lack of funds.

We have been ripped off. Loan forgiveness is not taking away money from the poor to pay the rich. It’s returning some of the money to those who have been swindled.

It doesn't seem like anyone who profited from student loans is returning the money. They are just forcing the tax payers to pay for those that have been swindled.

Of course not. Big business and conservatives are all against any form of socialism or welfare except when it comes to corporate welfare and bailouts.

They got a quasi-governmental agency privatized, stockholders got a lot out of that. Used the profits and overcharges to become a bank and issue their own private loans, more profit. Steered former students towards more expensive payoff methods, yet more money for them. The feds have managed to get money back for some of those overcharges. Class action lawsuits by some of the states and private citizens have resulted in a few more billion, but a chunk of that went to the lawyers.

JoeH… don’t forget they made it impossible to dispense with student loans by declaring bankruptcy.

THAT was the worst thing of all. Corporate persons can lose $$$$ and their creditors have to eat it (like Trump). But students ! Lifelong doom.

is student loan debt inheritable?
is just a tad murky...

I have to say I cringed a bit at the whole student debt forgiveness program. Some people (me included) tightened the belt for a number of years in order to pay for our kids' education without taking any loans. So I do not see how that is fair. On the other hand, $10K is a laughable drop in the ocean of tuition payments, so ultimately I decided not to care.

It is a sign of self-actualization to not begrudge the good fortune of others.
