My mom always used the waffle maker for grilled cheese sandwiches when I was a kid. When I went to a friend's house once during that time, the mom made us grilled cheese via frying pan and I was like, "what the hell is that?"

Love toasted/grilled sandwiches made in a waffle maker.

I must say, I'm a little intrigued. Aside from the waffle marks on the bread instead of grill lines, I'm assuming there's no other difference? Do you still butter (or mayo) the bread? Use the built-in waffle timer or just wing it? Sandwich makers want to know!

Mom has one of those things from the 1970s (or 60s) that can reverse the plates as flat or waffled. pretty cool.
