I think gabester was meaning men in a position of power; in this country, that has been traditionally white, upper-class wealthy individuals. Just the same ones that owned slaves and land; remember, there used to be a "requirement" that a voting individual had property, such as land or the "inferior" races (translate: slaves). These are the same individuals who considered that their "needs" would be met to their satisfaction, either in the institution of marriage or not. After all, the purpose of woman was to meet their needs and provide the children, and little else.
When you don't consider the majority of humanity as being actually being human, it makes it much easier.

maybe the leftists will go back to California and NY? I don't think so. Clearly they want no state income tax, freedom and be informed about what their kids learn in school.

You are comparing high crime arms in both states, NYC, Orlando, Miami, all cities that voted blue, run by Democrats. The rest of Florida is safer, lower crime, same goes for most of NY outside of MYC

Interesting data from the FBI regarding crime rates in metropolitan counties compared to non-metropolitan ones. Note the rates for murder, rape and aggravated assault.
