Sinead was right. About all of it.

I have a lot of Catholic friends, this was just the way it was when they grew up.
I wish nothing but the harshest punishment for those bastiges criminals.

That said, I was brought up catholic and I have a lot of catholic friends. None of my brothers, myself or any of our friends experienced this crap. Granted, perhaps we were just lucky...or your friends were very unlucky, but not everyone who served as an altar boy or was taught by a priest was molested.

BUT...see my first sentence.
Same and true for those I know who attended church in my city (nearly everyone in a populous city). Of course, it did happen but I must have been dismissive enough about the whole thing.
Oh, it happened and occasionally there would be rumors. I may have brushed close to it myself from what I learned years later. One priest in my parish was reassigned to one of the dioceses in the Southwest for "health reasons" about the time I turned 18. Years later a close family member of his who was also a priest was one of the priests accused of molesting kids in the local diocese. Never heard any more about the priest from my parish, so he may or may not have been involved.
