One can make a firearm with a decent 3D printer. The barrel used to be the toughest thing. With some metal bar stock, a 3D printer and a power supply, almost anyone can make a rifled barrel now. Guess that we'll need to outlaw metal bar stock as well.

Reductio ad absurdum - argument that attempts to establish a claim by showing that the opposite scenario would lead to absurdity or contradiction.

If determined enough, one could build a flamethrower. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be controlled.

A tiger pit is easy for anyone to build. Doesn't mean your neighborhood should be full of them.
Flamethrowers are legal in many states. Easy to buy and no background check required.

Muzzleloaders are also no background check, including a 12 gauge double barrel pistol.

Logic chopping fallacy - Focusing on trivial details of an argument, rather than the main point of the argumentation.

The fact remains that because an illegal and dangerous act may be impossible to prevent completely, it does not logically follow that it is pointless to attempt to control it at all.

Stupid idea. Sounds like "Let's make certain drugs illegal. THAT'LL stop everyone from doing them!" :RollingEyesSmiley5: We all know how that turned out.

Nirvana fallacy – solutions to problems are rejected because they are not perfect.

Has marijuana use gone up in the 28 States where it's now legal? I would guess it has.
Yes, most of us are aware of your superpower, DeusxMac. The ability to daily counter every post here that you find disagreeable with aplomb and decor makes this obscure political forum a real joy to participate in. :RollingEyesSmiley5:

Thanks for being you and... HIGH FIVE!!

Let’s eliminate all guns by confiscation to see what effect that has on deaths by gunners, legal or illegal. Most deaths by guns are by the legal owner or a family member.

Brilliant idea, when can we start.

Are you referring to pot? Alcohol? Something else made legal? How has that turned out?

Well, we made alcohol illegal. That didn't work out too well but made several families rich, including the Kennedy's.
