I have a Pi-Hole DNS sink hole and I keep the pi-hole software up to date, and also I updated the list of blocked domains regularly.
However, I noticed there are several adds that slip though, and these are well known domains such as googleadservices or doubleclick (spelling may not be correct). Those should be blocked, and most ads are blocked. if I disable the Pi-Hole DNS and use my regular router as DNS, it's a disaster. So Pi-Hole works and it does help, but it's not 99.99% efficient like it used to be until a few weeks ago.
Any thoughts? I should probably ask on their forums, but I find that process to be a pain, you need to format it a certain way.
