I'm about at the end of my patience (job search)
#11
As most of you know I lost my job a few weeks ago and with one single exception, every single lead that has resulted in an interview has been the result of networking. Not one of the jobs I have interviewed for has been posted anywhere and two companies are considering CREATING positions for me.

People are MUCH more receptive to reading my resume when I preface the call or email with "Jane Smith suggested I contact you."

I realize it helps that I have worked in the same industry for 15 years, have tons of contacts and a good reputation, but I have to believe that you have solid contacts you haven't tapped yet.

Good luck and stick with it- the right thing is out there (for both of us!)

I agree that networking is the key even tho' admittedly at times I am hesitant because I don't want to 'bother' people, esp. acquaintances, neighbors, and such. Or I don't want to look desperate (tho' I am!) or to give the people the impression that "What is wrong with him? Why can't he land a job?". So I have been networking with friends and friends of friends.

i suggest making a major change to either the job market you're jumping in to (location, position, etc) or how you're finding opportunities. be confident in everything you've done so far but accept that it hasn't gotten you what you want. consider a related field with more demand for workers.

thanks for reminding me that getting an MA isn't always what its cracked up to be.

Go to Amazon and buy a copy of "Ask the Headhunter: Reinventing the Interview to Win the Job" by Nick A. Corcodilos. Amazing book, really clarifies what works and what doesn't in job searches.

LOL. Architect License. She needs so many hours of work under her belt before she can take the exams.

Was your wife of legal age when you married her?
