Adobe Illustrator CS2 to CS3 transition questions
#1
Related to my question about getting a new computer for my office, I'd like to know what the file compatibility is between Illustrator CS2 and CS3. The reason is that there are two of us using Illustrator CS2 in the office now (one on mac, one on PC) so all of our drawings are in CS2 format. If my new computer ends up being a Windows computer, I'll no longer be able to use my mac CS2 license and will have to buy a new copy which will be CS3, thus leaving us each with a different version. So, I have these questions:

1. Will both be able to seamlessly open and close our existing files and make new files with both CS2 and CS3.

2. Will all of our old CS2 files open OK in CS3. I'm leery of this issue because I've already been through the adobe upgrade hell whereby converting a bunch of old files from Illustrator 9 to CS2 formats resulted in unending text conversion problems.

Have you tried the Adobe user forum for Illustrator? If there are problems, you'll almost certainly hear about them there.

the text conversion issue was that in CS2 illustrator started using the Indesign type engine -- for better compatibility between those apps

should be zero issues with CS2 >> CS3, unless you do some wacky stuff in CS3 and try to save it down

but for normal stuff, conversion has been fine for us
