Re my previous topic about the Garmin 660. Important info if you're thinking about buying one.

My previous topic: "I overextended myself to get it, but I love it! Nuvi 660" http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/361447

New news! At least it was for me.

Last night, as I searched for forums dealing with my new GPS, I found out that Garmin is coming out, at any moment now (mid-Oct), with a new "700" series to replace the 600 series. http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2007/08/garmi...php?page=1

This should mean that the 660 that I just purchased should experience a "serious" price drop as soon as the new model hits the stores.

I definitely plan to return my 660 and to see if the 760's new features are attractive enough for me to switch. Also, since the retail for the 760 is the same as the 660, I wonder if I can negotiate the same price for a 760.

One way or another, I think it would be a good idea to wait to buy a new Nuvi.

TomTom One goes for $199. What I'll be missing?

Software for 660 went to 4.10 on 9/5. Fixes a few bugs. Downloaded and did a direct upgrade.

Was thinking of extending my Traffic from the Free Time...Sometimes I like the way the traffic indicator works, other times I dont like it.

What do people think of traffic on the Garmins? Do you find it accurate?

Does the TomTom do traffic?, I assume it has plenty of POI, and it directs you with a voice that is audible, with left or right direction warnings...

I would easily be tempted to buy a 199 device, if I could be convinced that it had the support that Garmin seems to.

Will have to look up the 700 series to see what features it would have. Wonder if I pay to have traffic on one Garmin, and then sell it, I can have my sub moved to the new Garmin?

Thanks.

I find traffic to be worthless here in Seattle.
I will not be renewing when it expires next week.

GeneL posted the url for GPS magazine. i read a couple of them. apparently the map routing engine for the garmins is much more robust than the Tom Toms. more efficient, detailed routing. it was interesting to read.

One feature that I love is the wonderful. handsfree bluetooth through the 660's mic and speaker and dialing on the touchscreen. It has the ability to play through the car speakers, but I'm perfectly happy with the built-in speaker and this way I can still listen to the radio. This is so much better than a headset and soon handsfree cell use will become the law, so I'll be all set.

The handsfree, the fact that it announces the street/road names, the easy on-screen menus and the large and very clear screen are some of the features that drew me to this model.

There are a number of other neat features that I need to call Garmin about tomorrow to learn how to utilize them.

So far, it's been very easy to use and I have no regrets about spending the dough.
