Once, when I worked for a large Printing/Marketing firm, I was driving from our printing plant to Atlanta. On the way I saw one of our paper supplier's trucks in the median and it looked pretty much like the scene above. I remember saying to myself, "I hope the paper for my client's job wasn't on that truck." Ask me if I was surprised when I got back and the head of our order department, said, "You know your job that we had to order that special stock for......". I know he thought I was going to think that he made up the story about the truck turning over on the way, but I told him I had actually seen the truck hours earlier.

if it was just goods, that's fine, all that can be replaced. But there are irreplaceable documents in many of these letters...

I never ship FedEx without it. I think Ground is automatically insured for up to $100.
I've always had good luck with FedEx but that's one helluva mess.

Interesting how people's minds work; the driver may never again work, walk or get another shot to bowl a 300 game but is of course easily replaceable. Some documents carry more value than the people who carry the documents and that's not a proper mindset. At least it's not to me.

(I think I may have just offended a mod, actually I hope I did)

I think we are NOT seeing enough of the dual trailer fiasco that the DOT and Congress has permitted.

I don't want to say more - so this doesn't become a political thread --- therefore, I'll refer all readers to the "Who Are The Moderators???" thread as a diversion.

It was the aftermath of a traffic "incident" , how that is political fades in importance to how it's a "Tip or Deal".

Tip! Avoid being within tipping distance of an 18 wheeler.

Maybe now it's a qualified post?

I think re/insurance, your insurance coverage is free up to $100, but you have to claim/request it at the time of shipment; you just pay more if you claim over $100.

I believe this is how UPS works it as well, but someone correct me if my info is wrong.

Maybe you heard more on this than what the link says. The driver was complaining of back pain... which isn't uncommon in the profession to begin with.

Not that I wish the driver any harm or agree with it, but drivers should know that their lives are secondary to the packages they carry. That's the way the industry works and the way the trucks are built. The packages have more protection around them than the driver has in his truck. The truck itself is a steel frame for the engine and drive, and the cab is all fiberglass which pretty much disintegrates on even a minor impact.

Depending on the carrier, when a driver wrecks a truck they often don't even get their personal property out of the truck. What they can carry in their arms in one trip is usually all. It's part of the job.

I originally was against dual trailers. But recently I've been amazed at how well composed they play with others. Not sure what if any technology has changed. Now, with the purported Mexican trucks being allowed in, I'll reserve my judgment until I see (if I can even TELL), how they do.

I've ridden with one of my employer's 'logistics' truckers. They are very professional. They would get let's say demerits for breaking the speed limit. Three in one day and they would be penalized. And we did not use tandem trailers, either. I was underneath a semi once. Well, it was on my left side and as we entered a turn, it went on ITS left side, it was interesting to watch the bottom/underneath of it RIGHT NEXT TO ME. I hopped out and assisted in getting this guy and his lady out. She was screaming like a crazy person. I will never be on the LEFT side of ANY SEMI in that particular turn again! [Blu-it was the transition from 69s to 465 (east)] That was the first of TWO Semis that tipped over in ONE WEEK on the same curve. I saw them both.
