Quicken 2005 online Banking ?'s
#1
I just started using my banks online banking/billpay. I can use safari to use their web based service but they don't offer direct connection through quicken.

I am trying to decide if it is worthwhile to switch banks to use Quicken directly so I don't have to enter every transaction 3 times. 1.Bill Pay, 2. Quicken register, 3. Paper register.

If you manually enter debit card or checks does quicken duplicate the transaction when you connect to the bank?

If you send payees a payment through quicken does it show in the register? or does it have to clear the bank first?

Have you found the reliability good enough to give up keeping a paper register in your checkbook?

can your online service export you statements in a file quicken can import?

i use Bank of America and Quicken 2006. i also download my credit card statements into Quicken. this has saved me tons of typing as you can imagine. i do think quicken will duplicate the transaction if you download and enter manually.

my system is pay my bills, record in my check register, and enter (now by downloading) into quicken. i reconcile in quicken. don't think it will ever work for me just to do it on the computer. this current system is still light years ahead of how i used to keep track.

My bank also does not allow direct Quicken access, but I use Safari to access Bill Pay at my bank. I then must enter the payment into Quicken. But not also on paper. If I need it on paper I just print out a register. If I download a QIF file from the bank, it would duplicate items already in Quicken. I do use QIF dowloads from credit cards however, and usually the only duplication is the payment I make to the card, which I simply delete aflter downloading. Hope this helps.

I can get QIF format, but when I import to quicken it duplicates ones I have entered manually.

Problem with not entering manually and just downloading the QIF file is transactions don't show until they clear. You can end up with a lot of things out there that aren't in the register. I like to keep a close accounting of actual balance.
