DUMB OSX install question.....
#1
When I got my daughter her 2 iBooks I took off OSX because she didn't need or want it on them...(about 2-3 yrs ago) Now since IE doesn't support MAC anymore she is having problems with it on the net and AOL isn't supporting anything but OSX. Email isn't supporting html with AOL 5.0 on her iBook and OS9.

If I send her some OSX install disks will the OS just install OSX without knocking out any of her files (if she doesn't hit the FORMAT button). It might upgrade OS9, too but she is running 9.2.2.

Is this the easiest way to restore her to an OSX bootable file on her iBook?

Yes, and yes.

As always, anything can go wrong anytime, anywhere, so backing up of files is always recommended.

But she can "add" X to her boot drive. She should make sure she has plenty of room. Select Install OS X and don't check Erase, etc.

If she doesn't add the printer drivers and extra languages, she can keep the Install down to 2G or less. X likes a lot of free space, so the total freespace should be 15-20% after installation.

I never add the drivers for the printers if I know that there will not be a myriad of printers to be used.

That saves about 1GB!

i've done installs as small as 600MB - with adding nothing but IE and Safari.

I don't suggest that, but my typical, with the basic software and iTunes, etc., is about 1.7GB.
