Bad RAM (again?)
#1
Picked up a G4 PowerBook 1.25 10.4.11 with 512 RAM. Installed a 1GB stick but when it starts it'll act fine until the Finder window opens then it will freeze. Tried it in the top and bottom slot and no change. Put back in the old sticks (2-256's) and it's back to normal.
Used wrist strap, etc., as I always do so did I still fry it somehow or is it bad RAM or what?

Bad RAM. Where did you buy it?

Computer Service something or other-used to be Computer Builders Warehouse. I'm going to return it but I don't want them telling me I fried it when I installed it. My PB wouldn't even start if it was fried, right?

Right, not fried. And the 1.25 and 1.33GHz models are extremely fussy about memory so don't bother buying the replacement from anyone other than a Mac specialist who guarantees compatibility with your model. Some place like--oh, I don't know--OWC perhaps? Smile

The reason I went there was that they had the same price as OWC, it is right on my way to work, and I didn't have to wait to get it. I will order it from OWC now, tho...
