I'm considering "upgrading" from my 20" Dell ultrasharp widescreen monitor (the 2004 version) to a 24" Soyo that Officemax will have for $299 next week.
Will size trump everything else? Or will I be left noticing how poor the quality is?
Extremetech only gave it 5/10

I really want a bigger monitor - but don't really have the cash right now for a high-quality 24".

I have a dell 2405 and i can definitely tell the difference moving to a cheaper display.
it all depends upon how picky you are. i'm a photographer so i'm hard to please. most people wouldn't notice the difference.

I prefer the good 24" Acer I have over the Excellent 20" Dell my wife has. I just like the space that much.
The Soyo is supposed to be a mid grade glass IIRC (better than my Acer, not quite as good as the high end Dells)
I chose the Acer for the brand and the 3 year warranty (but I don't think the Acer is $299 right now)

I made the move from a Dell 2005fpw to the Soyo 24. Perhaps the colors on the Soyo aren't quite as rich and contrast quite as deep as the Dell, but not so much so that I've regretted the move for an instant. I've been very happy with my Soyo.

I've got the 24" Soyo and absolutely LOVE it.
My particular monitor does have a synchronizing bug - it has to be turned on twice to display the screen. But for $300 for a 24" screen with true 8-bit color, it's quite the bargain! I'm very picky about LCD colors - see some of my previous posts about CRTs vs LCDs - and the color on this is (just) good enough to leave CRTs for.

I upgraded from a Dell 2005FPW to a 2405FPW. Image quality on the 20" is better but I'm using the 24" anyway (I still have the 20" in another room). Size does matter.
