The last honest politician I knew who was elected was Paul Wellstone. I did not always agree with his views, but you knew he always voted on his principles and could not be bought. In the end, he even knew how to compromise without costing his soul.
Those individuals come once a generation. Alas, that means we'll have to wait another 20 years for our next real person in major national office. His loss was EVERYONE'S loss, liberal and conservative alike.
