Quandary: buying this song off iTMS. The full-length, 3:20 version is clearly a sub-par encode vs. the 3:16 version. Which would you buy? I hate buying substandard rips, but I also hate humming along and suddenly knowing that they cut off some notes or a solo or something. JoeH, other music pros, and fellow music lovers: what is your opinion? TIA.

Might those extra 4 seconds be a larger gap before/after the song? Are they off of different albums with different runtimes? Just a thought.

Have had the same quandary myself, but for larger differences (say, for a minute longer version). Go for the better encoded version.

Or, for that matter, if it really bugs you -- buy both. They're only a buck each.
