Live TV viewing on Plextor ConvertX 402: picture stutters; pixelates
#1
When I had the elgato Hybrid, watching live TV was fine. Now I have a Plextor ConvertX 402 and often, the picture stutters and pixelates. The sound doesn't breakup but the video does.

It's as if the box, flexing its hardware-compression muscles, feels the need to unnecessarily "re-digitize" the picture on the fly but can't really do it.

I'm using the same basic analog cable TV service as before (no cable box) and EyeTV 2.5.2

What Mac are you running?
Sounds like USB problems.
Bad Hub?
Bad USB Port?
Could also be a weak TV signal, you running a cable splitter?
Also, too full of a System HD can cause that also.
Also, what settings are you using on the 402U?

I've also gotten such results since switching to an Intel system. Happened in EyeTV 2.5.x and now 3

The 'fix' I've found is to quit the program and open it again, then things work fine. Of course this doesn't help with shows recorded crappily..

Mine is plugged directly into the USB port on the back of my Mac Pro, tried changing ports. DivX Home Theater Highest for the device profile. Still connected to cable the same way it had been the last 2 years. 300GB free disk space.

Plugged into my USB PCI adapter that until I rebooted yesterday wasn't even seen by Leopard. Could be the USB bandwidth is bad even though there's nothing else on the bus or the card. Good suggestion. I'll reboot into Tiger and see if that fixes it.

The only two changes to the system are the Plextor and Leopard.
