Jeanne Claude and Christo, the exhibit
#1
I visited an exhibit of environmental artists Christo and Jeanne Claude this weekend at the Austin Museum of Art. I'd heard of Christo prior to this, but nothing of co-artist J.C., who is also Christo's wife. The museum was screening some videos of the couple and their work process, and they were showing her speak about how they made their money, her take on their art, and the impermanence of it all - she is fabulous, very charismatic.

I was really impressed by her and her attitude about life and their work; I came away appreciating their installations considerably more than I had. A lot of planning, sometimes several years worth, goes into a project and they are totally committed to it - they don't even accept money from any source other than their paintings, not even from T-shirt and book sales.

The exhibit is worth checking out if you have a local showing.

I wanted to see "Running Fence" when I lived in CA but missed the chance. I've always liked their work. I make jokes all the time about wrapped things being "Christo" works.

I find them interesting . I like all sorts of Art.

I find it fascinating that Hallmark has been selling all sorts of crap cards and plastic nasty ornaments and stuffed animals for years.

With much of the profit they have been buying up great photography for years

HALLMARK PHOTOS
The Hallmark card company has one of the finest photographic collections in the country. It includes 6,500 images from 900 photographers, including Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams, William Wegman and Robert Maplethorpe. The photos' estimated market value is $65 million. Hallmark has just given the collection to its hometown museum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Serena Altschul will tell the story of this hidden treasure.

They've definitely made some good work but i thought the central park project was disappointing.

alot of what they do is bring art to the masses. this is very cool but sometimes it seems there isn't enough thought in it.
