They can surely deduct the $500K as business expense. Isn't there more oil in that tanker than the ransom?

Yep, the cargo is worth more than the ransom but the pirates are not GREEDY.:biggrin:

It seems that it wasn't their first oil tanker, they just released a smaller one that they captured in September.
