install os9 on g4 ibook

a friend has a g4 ibook with osx (tiger i think, maybe jag), and they want to install os9 for classic and dual boot (if possible). been so long since i've done this, i need a refresher. should they just boot form the 9 disk and install?

I don't think G4 iBooks will boot into OS9, the G3 iBooks were the last ones with that ability as I recall. You can certainly run OS9 in Classic on that computer.

my tibook is a g4 400 and it dual boots. did they stop that with the ibooks? His ibook is more recent than my ti i'm pretty sure.

IIRC, all G4 Mac ibooks boot into OSX, not OS 9. You can of course install Classic on them.

The processor is not the issue, when the product was introduced is the issue. The PowerBook G4/400 was introduced in January 2001. The G4 iBooks were first introduced around October 2003.

What version of the MacOS is pre-installed on the iBook? Which iBook models can boot MacOS 9? Which iBook models can only run MacOS 9 applications in the "Classic" Environment?

READ the link I posted. You can install OS 9 for Classic from some OS X discs.
