The mission was to take down Saddam. Mission Accomplished.

Bush got a little ahead of himself with the banner, then, didn't he?

Also, I thought the mission was to protect us from terrorists and WMDs. I don't recall either one being in Iraq in 2003.
How much KNOWING that Iraq has no WMD worth to you? Nothing? Wouldn't it be comforting if we KNEW what Iran was up to?
I was pretty certain Iraq had no significant amount of WMD's before we invaded. Turned out that I and many others were right about that, no need for 10's if not 100's of thousands to die, including over 4,000 of our troops. So, not worth that much to "KNOW" as you put it.
At least 200,000 men, women and children by most estimates, and large parts of the country are still without basic infrastructure (e.g. garbage collection and processing). The effect of our invasion of Iraq is worse than 1,000 Saddams with 1,000 wood chippers. And ask swampy if anything has changed for the oppressed women over there before you start to argue that we brought them "liberation".
Please tell me that wasn't all just to take out one man. And please tell me that wasn't just to check and be sure there were no WMD.

Of course, I realize full well that swampy and dakota believe the only good muslim is a dead one, and couldn't care one bit about a single life lost over there. Oh, but the oppressed women, the oppressed women!

Bush killed more Americans than the terrorists. He didn't have to. Maybe there is something to "turn the other cheek."

Are you suggesting that the United States should invade Iran to find out what it's up to?

Anyone wonder what Venezuela is up to?

Not at all a "non sequitur", actually. The book is about the Bush administration's strategy in regard to the GWOT.

That may be what the book is about, but it's not what your comment was about, seeing as how the thread had since veered in another direction.

You have Afghanistan to show us how to do it better. For the start, Obama is going to pour even more troops there.

Afghanistan is where the terrorist camps and headquarters were. If we had finished the job in Afghanistan instead of veering into Iraq, things would be a lot better now. Seriously, you wingnuts have a logic deficit.

Mostly replacing ones that were taken out to go to Iraq years ago. But it may still be too little, too late, the Taliban and al-Queda have had 5+ years to rebuild, create new hiding places, and train up new groups influenced by them.

Sounds like a good reason to get out, this time out of Afghanistan. At least you get your wish.

Who says it was my wish? That is just you talking to yourself in the mirror. If the Bush administration had concentrated on Afghanistan in the first place instead of going off on a tangent after Iraq it might have actually done some good. Instead, it has drawn out our presence there, split the special forces so they had far fewer available to go after Bin-Laden and the Taliban, and given the opponents of us the chance to rebuild on that basis. Sounds more like failure in Aghanistan was the Bush administration's and your wish.
