Talk me out of one of these TVs

I haven't really followed post-CRT technology.
I've looked a bit and kind of settled on a Toshiba 1080p model like these:

I don't know enough to know what I don't know . . . any wisdom appreciated. The space is the top of a dresser that's exactly 36" wide (it can hang over an inch or two in either direction though.

I guess the only question I know I have for sure has to do with viewing angle-- typically would view from about 2 feet below, 12 feet away-- do these bases generally swivel such that the panel could point slightly down? I could probably rig some sort of a wedge for it to sit on if not. but would rather not have to . . .

They still make CRT's, and they look much better than most LCD/Plasmas!

We bought a Toshiba 37" LCD last year around Thanksgiving. We like it. I don't think our base tilts or swivels. Typically, if you want to be able to adjust the angle, I think you would need to wall mount it on a mount that has the tilt/swivel.

If you already have a crt in that room, you need to do some analysis regarding the size of a hdtv to get to be equal (or larger) than the existing tv. This link http://www.cavecreations.com/tv2.cgi

will help you to compare 4:3 (crt) TV's to 16:9 (hdtv) TV's.
And one of the 42" TV's in your link is 39.8" wide, so it might fit okay.

Ours is a 720p. I was told that because of the size and how far we sit from the set, we would not be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080. Here is an article that explains it better than I can.

Few if any table top TVs (yeah, that's what those are) have any tilt and swivel ability.

The viewing angle *might* be forgiving enough for those parameters, but I'd want the screen to be perpendicular to my line o' sight in any event.

A wedge with some kind of anchor (an arm mounted to the TV and wedgie) will probably be in order. Or maybe you don't get earthquakes in Chicago?

I made it to a best Buy tonight to look for myself (managed to talk the sales-critters into not turning the sets off while I was looking at them).
Yeah, some swivel but it seems that none pivot.
They managed to not have any 32" models on display that were 1080p, but there was a 37" (A Samsung I think) and the picture was definitely impressive compared to the 720s. I have a few reasons for wanting the clearer resolution even though I agree the difference would be barely noticeable in everyday use.
32" is very clearly the right size, no question.
Probably one of my all time worst transit experiences tonight-- I was outside waiting for over 2 hours for one hour of shopping. Probably would have been the all time worst except I was dressed more appropriately for the cold than past times.
