30" Dell just arrived...
#1
and it DIDN'T work out of box.

I got massive scrabbled eggs when I upped it to it's proper rez. Tried other port, pram zap...

Went to frys bought an $80 Monster cable (it was the only one that claimed full rez).

And the damn cable didn't fit the monitor!!?? It fit the ATIx1900 card just fine, but there were a couple of extra pins in the way.

FRUSTRATED, I smashed them out of the way and tried again. This time I got an apple with white background - improvement, but instead of going to desktop, it went to a black screen and the monitor's indicator shows no connection.

Oh yeah... probably shouldn't have smashed the pins out of the way... cause they are now touching the outside wall... so I YANK the pins - get 'em all the way outta there (how and I gonna return this to fry's) and now all is well.

GAWD DAMN DELL - this is the second monitor purchase in a row that came with a cable so inferior, it wouldn't work.

So, I'm playing with the new toy, but I'm gonna have to log some phone time on this one.

oh yeah... monitor quality is pretty good. Not as good as the 24" iMac, but a very fine monitor. Color is a little too saturated, but I don't do vital color work.

Considering the hassle I have to look forward to getting a proper cable for this thing, I'm a little reluctant to recommend. But it WAS under $700 - still a good deal I guess...

order up the correct cable from monoprice -- then return the monster crap cable

The SAME thing happened to me...until I used the dual-link DVI cable that came in the box. I was using the cable that was connected up to my 24" and I got the same effect.

Let me know if that helps.

doesn't help - I used the cable that came with the monitor - I didn't have a dual link cable around

Since it's a refurb, maybe Dell mistakenly shipped a cable that isn't dual-link?

Even though Dell makes pretty good monitors at the end of the day they're still Dell

no, the cable that shipped says 'dual link' right on it...

Well at least they got that part right. By any chance, does it also say 'doesn't work' right on it? :jest:
