My desktop is messed up ....

out of order folders, not organized the way I had it, folders missing from desktop screen.

No one has access to this computer but me.

When you go to your User folder, and open the "Desktop" folder, what do you see?

I would run Disk Utility and Diskwarrior... lt's been quite a while, but last time I had a simillar issue, files started disappearing, and Diskwarrior saved my bacon from some serious directory damage.

Run DiskWarrior. Nobody likes to lose their bacon. It's too yummy!

I can't believe there's not a single bacon-related smiley here in the whole list… just sad…

There are things in the user folder, but I don't think everything is there.

stop using the machine and run disc warrior

I would also do a Safe Boot- start up holding the Shift key fir a minute or two. When it finally boots, you should see Safe Boot in the login window.

Restart normally.

Disk Warrior.

Also, you an compare your current Desktop with that of your Desktop on your bootable backup drive.
