You can do that by burning a data CD in Roxio Toast. They give you the option of burning a Mac&PC disc.

With Toast I just choose "Mac & PC" for the burn. I never use the Finder to burn so I don't know if it has that option.
You don't have to do anything special with your JPEG image files; they are by definition cross-platform.

This app will allow you to burn Mac+PC discs and it's a lot cheaper than Toast, if cost is a concern.
http://www.discoapp.com/ And this one is completely free (open source) http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/

The Finder burns hybrid Mac/PC volumes.
Make a new Burn Folder in the Finder. (File : New Burn Folder) Give the folder a descriptive name. Drag your jpegs onto the burn folder's icon. It will put alias files for each of your jpegs into the burn folder. (Don't worry that they're alias files.) Double click its icon to open the Burn Folder's window, make sure that the media you're using (CD-R/DVD -R, etc.) meets the minimum size (capacity) noted at the bottom of the window and click the "Burn" button. When you're done, trash the Burn Folder. Since it only contains alias files, your originals will be safe.

I use the Finder, too, but make sure all your files have a '.jpg' (or .jpeg, .JPG, .jpe) extension, lest you get razzed by your Windows-using counterparts.
Also, don't volunteer that you used a Mac to burn the disc. If there's any problem on the receiving end, they'll try to blame you. I burned a DVD for my sister, and through some weird quirk in HER Windows setup all the files appeared with Internet Explorer icons. She blamed me and my Mac Sheep of the Family ways, of course, but then I booted into another account on her machine and the files were all fine.

straight from the help menu
To create a CD or DVD using the Finder: In iPhoto, select the album or albums you want to burn to a disc. Export the album or albums to a folder on your computer. Exporting photos for use in other applications When the export is finished, quit iPhoto. Click the Finder icon in the Dock and insert a CD-RW disc or a blank CD-R or DVD-R disc into your drive. Drag the folder that contains your exported photos onto the disc’s icon. When the files have finished copying, choose File > Burn Disc, and then click Burn.

I have a Mac Mini 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB RAM SuperDrive running 10.5.6. I haven't seen a reason to buy Toast. Should I?
I know how to burn CDs and DVDs, it's just that when I give .jpgs on a CD to a PC person, they complain that they can't see images. I follow the 8/3 rule for each image name. I don't ever burn CDs from iPhoto. I will try the finder method. Thanks PS: Does the CD require a 8/3 rule name? If so, what is the suffix (.xxx)?

Modern PCs just need the dot+3 ending and no special characters. (Stick to letters, numbers, underscores and dashes in the names.)
Make sure file names end in .jpg as well. |
