Batch changing mp3 bit rate?
#1
my son wants to listen to his music on his phone. the highest bit rate for the phone's player is 192 and most of what he has is higher than that. i can change each track in Amadeus Pro but it would have to be done song by song i think. (he's not an audiophile and will not hear the difference.) is there an application that would change an album's worth of files as a batch? btw, he probably has less than 50 songs.

I've always liked this, although it is quite out of date.

iTunes will also do this, but he needs to take steps to ensure he doesn't create dupes in his main iTunes library.

Are you sure about that - it seems like the settings are there when you start building a new batch processor:

SD Guy - i just came back to post that i nosed around Amadeus and found it does do batch processing. as with many apps on my hard drive, i tend to forget what their capabilities are!

itunes will do it. change the encoder setting to 192 or whatever lower you want, select the tracks, right click, and "convert to mp3". It will re-convert them to the lower/new bitrate.

don't get that...

we tested Amadeus converting one album and it worked perfectly. this was preferable to iTunes in that the last time i used iTunes to convert a file i wound up with dupes that were a bit of a pain to deal with.

thanks, all!

XLD is free, FWIW.

step 1: set prefs

step 2: select files

step 3: watch them process

step 4: done! compare file sizes

oh, XLD was the name of a program. i'll check it out. i own Amadeus but XLD looks more task specific. Amadeus is overkill for this job and my kid is already annoyed by the number of steps it takes to get the music on his phone.
