I'll ask my oil change guy what he thinks of the 10/50. That sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the help.

Isn't that a conflict of interest? You really should check out bobistheoilguy.com forums if you want real data. All their discussions revolve around hard analytical data on engine wear and laboratory results rather than gut feelings. They can probably give you hard data on that 10/50 idea, though they are more apt to tell you to go to synthetic oil. The lab analyses have found that quality full synthetic oils have been proven time and time again not to break down over periods much longer than 10,000 miles under a wide range of driving scenarios and different vehicle applications, whereas dino oil will under many conditions often start breaking down in less than 3,000 miles and be broken down enough to cause sludge buildup and reduced lubrication in less than 5,000. HIt has also been shown that if you have a decent filter (i.e. not a Fram) it can often clog up enough to open the filter bypass valve long before those 10,000 miles are up. That lack of filtering can easily result in premature engine wear, hence the 5,000 mile general recommendation for filter changes.

Wow. Bob really IS the oil guy. I'm going to keep using the Castrol this go-round and do some more reading. I'm leaning toward the Pennzoil Platinum if I change. It got good reviews and Wal-Mart has it. That is key where I live.
