MP3 how-to question
#1
I have an instrumental that's 4:15 & I want to speed it up so that it plays in 4:04. This is for a soundtrack for an iMovie I made in honor of my grandmother. I can't make the movie any longer & REALLY want to use this song.

Can this be done with Audacity? If so, I haven't figured out how.

somewhere there is a fit option that will synch the audio to the video in iPhoto slideshow, speed up or slow down. I wonder if there is such a thing for iMovie?

Just looked in iMovie HD 6. You can only trim audio clips. QT Player allows you to speed up an audio file. Open the A/V Controls under Window. You need QT Pro to save though or maybe Wiretap or something similar can record the Mac audio playback.

Audacity will do it (you need the LAME plugin for the MP3). I think it's called change tempo there.

In Audacity, Under "Effects" > "Change Speed"

Then you might have to adjust the pitch. Pitch adjustment is there too.

QT Pro can do it too but it doesn't sound very good. Then again you might not like how it will sound processed in Audacity. Editing it down in Audacity would not be too hard to do. Make a copy and try it out.

Cheers!

Change Speed and Change Pitch (obviously) will change pitch. Change Tempo doesn't, just speeds up or slows down. It will give you length in seconds as you alter the tempo which will help to hit your time mark.

If you want better you could purchase Bias Peak LE. They have a 15 day trial but you can't save.

I have QuickTime Pro & will have to look into that. Same with Audacity (I have that plugin).

I ended up getting rid of several cross-fades & replacing them with fade-outs & fade-ins, then spreading out the clips. It starts when it should & the last credit screen fades as the music ends. Not too shabby for only the 3rd time to ever do this.

iMovie is compressing the video now. Toast will have to covert it or encode it then I'll burn 6 or 8 DVDs & be done with it.

It's really great being able to do this but I get bogged down in the details & see something that needs changing every time I watch it. At least I watched this version 3 times & didn't catch anything before devoting 45 minutes to exporting it.

Changing Tempo in Audacity did the trick! This is good to know for next time!

I'm on the Dell Mac mini now because the Mac mini is devoting 90-98% of each core compressing this movie & I don't want to do anything to slow it down. Times like this is when a 2nd computer is just dandy!

Might be easier just to edit out a couple of measures.
