Actually the Honey is running low, I think I need to reorder, now I have to buy fancy pistachios too?

I'm sorry but you have not had a REAL pistachio until you've had one from http://www.heartofthedesert.com/index.asp

The quality of their pistachios will make you think regular supermarket pistachios are garbage (which they probably are). Notice that Heart of the Desert pistachios are not affected by the recall.

Do yourself a favor and order some. Be daring. Go for the red chile ones! Actually, IMO, the green chile & garlic ones are the best.

thanks, steph! i now have a gift for my friends who have everything. 2009 will be the year of the Pistachio!

space-time, yes...I aim to get the whole forum addicted to fancy honey and fancy pistachios. They're both really THAT good.

My family has been shopping at both places for nearly 25 years. Now when I travel to see certain friends or relatives, I am required to take them pistachios. Smile

graylocks - enjoy! They're really good.

Buying advice:

The plain ones are great (much better than ones you get in the supermarket).

The green chile are my favorite - they're already shelled. Very addictive.

The green chile and garlic taste the best. They'd be my favorite except for the fact they're not shelled. I've become addicted to the shelled ones!

Red chile are really good. The green chile varieties are not hot. The red chile ones have a little bite to them. The HOT variety of the red chile are nice & warm. Smile

The lemon & lime ones are probably really good for non-chile loving people, but I love my chile and as a result, these kinda pale in comparison to the others.

The other pistachio goods are also yummy (they have free samples at their store!). My mom is partial to the baklava.

The non-pistachio items are also good. They've partnered with other well-known brands (Desert Gardens is good - get their habanero seasoning!!!).

Their wines are decent but I don't know that any stood out as best in class for New Mexican wines I've tasted (I reserve that for Wines of the San Juans).

Happy shopping!

Hmm. I really feel the need for some pistachio ice cream. Maybe I'll get some of those nut meats.
