Sam - I've used that setting since it was introduced, and it's wonderful. I haven't had to look at a signature in ages.
Ignore this user is almost as good. It would be great if the user just disappeared with that option active.

Sam,
I'm with you. I remember the days of BBS systems and when Internet newsgroups were incredibly popular. The rule of thumb was to limit the size/length of your signature to four or five lines of text. Or, something along those lines. Here in the forum, I can turn off sigs via the prefs but that turns off all sigs. You can't pick and choose which ones get blocked. It'd be a shame to block all of the sigs since there are a few i enjoy seeing time and time again. A bit of self-control on the part of the people who participate here would go a long way towards a reasonable balance between those who can do without sigs that are overly long or large and those who like sigs that are overly long and large. I think forcing strangers to look at cutsey wootsy pictures of your cat with a hat on, sitting under an umbrella, with sunglasses on, and a vomit-inspiring name... or pictures of your kids, or your car, or other personal shrines or artifacts...or boring political opinions, quotes by irrelevant hippie authors, science fiction writers, tv-show reverences, etc....is one of the few forms of narcissistic hostility that's permissible, tolerated, and socially acceptable on the internet. Why risk confronting narcissists with the reality of their disturbing social habits? The line between ordinary narcissism and potentially murderous pathology is too fine to mess with. Today's cat-owning narcissist could be tomorrow's animal torturing proto-serial killer. Do we want responsibility for that?
