Does anybody have one of the 1.5M GM cars that have been recalled?

I'd heard something about it yesterday but didn't pay much attention until the video on tonight's news of the Chevy Lumina burning to a crisp, and the people trying to get the disabled driver out of it. It is one of the cars included in the recall, although there's no information yet about whether the fire in the engine compartment was actually caused by the same issue that's prompting the recall.

1997 - 2003 Buick Regal (is that what 'Mint had?)

1998 - 2003 Chev Lumina

1998 - 1999 Olds Intrigue

1997 - 2003 Pontiac Gran Prix

Edit: I forgot to add that it's the 3.8L engine models only.

I'll bet GM has at least one Executive somewhere who's annual salary equals what it will cost to fix these 1,500,000 vehicles. Hhhmmmm...I smell blood.

They ought to recall all the cars and refurb them to be more dependable...then in bankruptcy, they can erase all that bad debt. Start fresh, I say.




Or just buy a Honda and fugehtaboutit. ;-)

I don't think people are equating recall to what is actually being done:

"GM dealers will remove the plastic spark plug retention channel and install two new spark plug wire retainers free of charge."


They are replacing a piece of plastic....big deal. I bet half the cars that come in don't even have the old channel installed anymore. Those get broken all the time when wires are changed.
